The Importance of Exercise
The indisputable key to long-term fat loss is exercise. It's a proven way to boost your metabolism and increase caloric burn.
OK, I'll admit it: Exercise can be a drag. But don't imagine for one minute that I'm suggesting that you don't have to do it - you do! For every reason you can think of not to exercise, there are a million reasons why you should - more self-esteem and lower risk of cardiovascular disease (the number one killer of both men and women), to name two! There are plenty of mornings I'd rather sit on the couch and eat donuts with my kids. But I know how much better I'll feel after exercise and all the wonderful things it will do for my body and my state of mind. Even if I struggle through the first five minutes of my workout, my body almost always starts to loosen up, and I get a second wind. By the end, I feel like a new person!
And if you're trying to lose some weight, remember this - there are two basic components to a successful weight-loss plan: healthy eating and exercise. The key word here is AND. You need to move to drop those pounds. Why? Countless studies show that cutting calories alone does not result in long-term, permanent weight-loss; my own nonscientific study shows the same thing. If you're not burning calories through exercise, you'll have a hard time creating the calorie deficit necessary to lose weight - you need muscle to maintain a vigorous metabolism. I've seen it work for my friends, my family, my viewers and me. It will work for you as well!
