Hi Everyone! I get asked a lot about better sleep - and what the risks are when you can't get enough of it. Which is a smart question to be asking, since better sleep is SO IMPORTANT, not only for your physical health, but your mental health, too (not to mention how you look - think about the dark circles and sallow skin that comes with lack of sleep). So if you constantly feel drained, chances are your body is trying to tell you something! Luckily there are ways to help promote better rest and sleep, and I cover them in my Stop The Clock Workout Plan!

Sleep is an essential ingredient of a healthy, fit lifestyle. While you sleep, your body gets rid of waste products and circulates minerals, vitamins and hormones. During sleep your body produces most of the infection fighting substances that help you recover from illness and injury. It also produces the natural human growth hormone that maintains and repairs muscles.

Not getting the amount of sleep you need can:

  • Increase the incidence of all kinds of illnesses, from the common cold to more serious immune-deficiency disorders.
  • Hasten the onset of ailments such as hypertension and memory loss.
  • Upset the body’s metabolism in the same fashion as aging, increasing the risk of diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

Getting enough sleep is critical to enjoying good health. Even if you’re committed to exercising and following a sensible diet, you won’t get the full benefits of all your hard work if you don’t get your ZZZs. Cut out something else, but don’t skimp on the shut-eye. If you haven’t been getting enough, you’ll notice the difference right away once you get enough. With the right amount of sleep, you’ll feel better, look better and be able to engage in life with renewed energy.

My Stop The Clock Workout Plan covers six different ways to get better sleep, from minimizing caffeine and sticking to a routine to trying aromatherapy. Check it out today, and make better sleep a priority in 2019!

Let's get fitter, together - inside and out,
