Ask Denise: Should I Cut Back On Carbs?

Here’s a great question from member Kathryn from my online DeniseAustin.com community! Kathryn is a monthly plan member and she asks, “Is it a good idea to eliminate carbs from my diet to lose weight?”

Great question. Let’s talk CARBS! People are always asking me about low-carb diets! Well, we all need carbohydrates in our diet, but the RIGHT carbs are what’s so important. Eliminate carbs to try to lose weight is not the answer! Carbohydrates provide your body with energy, which you NEED to fuel your workouts and daily activities. While it isn’t a bad idea to cut back on simple carbohydrates, such as white bread, crackers and frozen yogurt – these foods tend to be low in nutrients and high in sugar – complex carbs like sweet potatoes, oatmeal and whole-grain bread provide essential nutrients and fiber. The key? Choose your carbs wisely and balance your meals with all four food groups. Attempting to eliminate an entire food group is an unhealthy approach and will set you up for failure! I do this in my 10-Week Whole Body Plan – it includes a personalized meal plan that is a healthy balance of all the nutrients you need.

I always recommend eating small, healthy portions that are part of well-BALANCED meals. I love food and you CAN enjoy delicious food and lose weight. It’s all about moderation!
