Menopause Fashion Tips!

I get asked a lot about how to dress as we get older… especially when it comes to menopause. Hormonal weight gain, “menopause belly,” hot flashes: what we wear can be helpful in keeping us cool, feeling good, and camouflaging the areas we aren’t so keen on showing off. Try these tips on dressing when you are in menopause!
- Layer up! When a hot flash hits, you don’t want to be wearing a heavy turtleneck with nothing underneath! Instead start with a cotton tee or tank, add a linen button up or cardigan over that, and add a lightweight scarf. That way you can add or remove as you feel fit!
- Go for non-restrictive clothing. There is a time and place for a fitted body-con dress, but on the daily, loose pieces that are comfortable and look good are the way to go. Choose elastic waistlines (nowadays they are everywhere and look great!) that can accommodate your midsection fluctuations, looser fitting tops with peplums that let you move with ease, and shoes that are comfortable and provide support. It’s all about looking good while feeling good!
- Choose natural fabrics. Linen, cotton, silk and even merino wool are breathable fabrics (as compared to synthetics like polyester), which means when a hot flash hits, you are likely to feel dryer and cooler sooner.
- Details are important. If you are feeling “less than” about areas of your body, find little ways to shift the focus elsewhere. A flutter sleeve top is a cute way to cover your upper arms; a deep neckline accentuates your decolletage and collar bones; cropped pants can show off your pretty ankles; and ruching can camouflage your waistline.
- When in doubt, accessorize! Accessories are a great way to bring some flair - and for not a lot of money! Add a brightly colored purse, some dangly earrings, or a jaunty hat or fun shoes: everyone will remember these statement pieces and not the areas you are concerned about.
At the end of the day, wear what makes you feel comfortable, confident and sexy - because you are worth it!
Let's live FIT, HAPPY and HEALTHY - together!!
