The Importance of Strength Training Plus 3 of My Favorite Moves

Want to know one of the best ways to give your metabolism a boost? Add consistent strength training to your routine! Not only will you feel GREAT when adding some strength training to your workouts, but there are so many more benefits. Maintaining muscle tissue is one of them. As we age our hormones decrease, which causes muscle tissue to decrease, which leads to a decrease in metabolism function. Strength training will help to keep that muscle tissue in tact (or even increase it!) and will keep your metabolism humming! You will increase your bone density which can reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis. And something I've said so many times... the more muscle you have, the more fat you will burn! 

Here are three of my favorite strength training moves. Do each move for one minute, and repeat two or three times. You will start building muscle in no time!

    • Overhead Press + Bicep Curl: Grab some light weights, hold them up in a goal post position and push the weights up towards the ceiling. Bring the weights down straight into a bicep curl. Notice I am also lunging side to side too, which gets your lower body involved. Truly a move for your whole body!
    • Tricep Kickback: With light weights in each hand, slightly bend your knees and tilt your upper body over just a little bit. Keep your elbows pinned into your side, lift the weights back and really squeeze your tricep muscles. This move is working the back of your arms and your upper back and will help you feel confident in those tank tops this season!
    • Back Fly: This move works your whole back, no more bra overhang! Hold your weights in each hand, bend your knees slightly and kick one foot back for stability. Lift the weights out to the side squeezing your shoulder blades together. Think about squeezing a pencil between your shoulder blades as you lift those weights.

    Here are my three top strength training moves, I love the first one. It's an overhead press with a bicep curl. Curl and press. This way you work your shoulders as well as your arms, the biceps. Do one minute of these. Second exercise is my favorite back of the arms, triceps. This is target toning the back of your arms. Also it helps the upper back shoulder area. Then the third one is all about your back, no more bra overhang. This is a great fly. Open up your chest and bring your shoulder blades together.
