My Number One Secret to Healthy Aging

September is Healthy Aging Month! I often get asked questions about aging. Like how to stay energized, how to lose those stubborn pounds, how to keep skin healthy, and the list goes on. I love these questions related to aging because it's something that we ALL go through... every single one of us will age, so why not make the most of it! We have the power to truly embrace aging and live life to the fullest every day!
I will be sharing several Healthy Aging Tips throughout the month and today is my number one secret, something everyone can do (and should do!) every day... MOVE! Movement is KEY to healthy aging. Here's why:
- Decrease Risk of Disease - regular exercise can lower your risk for common diseases that we are more susceptible as we age. Such as heart disease and diabetes.
- Boost Your Mood - exercise causes the production of endorphins, which is known as "the feel good hormone". Endorphins will act as a natural stress reliever and mood booster!
- Improve Sleep - many of us deal with less quality sleep or even bouts of insomnia as we age. Exercise can help you fall asleep faster and get better quality sleep. I have found it's best not to exercise too late into the evening though. Those endorphins might have the opposite effect and make it harder for you to fall asleep!
Try to get a little movement in each day. Whether it's a strength training workout, yoga or just a walk. Movement is what counts... and consistency is key!
