Stay on Track: Keep Your New Walking Routine a Consistent Habit
Hi everyone! If you’ve been following my blogs this month, you know I have been encouraging all of us to begin a walking routine! And if you took that first step toward wellness, congrats! I am SO PROUD of you! Walking is such a fun, simple way to boost your energy and metabolism, build muscle and balance, and even lift your mood! Now your goal is simple: keep it going!
Consistency is key to long-term health, but the good news is a few simple strategies can make your walks a natural part of your daily tasks. Try these suggestions to keep moving!
1.Schedule your walks like you do appointments. One of the easiest ways to stay consistent is to treat your walks like something important - because they are! Whether you do a morning walk to start your day with energy, a midday reset walk to clear your mind, or an evening walk to unwind, put it on your calendar and check it off as you go.
2.Make it fun. I like solo walks, but bringing along a friend or family member, talking on the phone while I walk, or listening to a podcast always makes it more enjoyable. My Denise Austin membership includes my Walking Inspirations that you can listen to while you walk - it’s like I am right there with you, cheering you on!
3.Switch up your walks. My Fit Over 50: Walk Off The Weight magazine has a variety of walking plans so you are challenging your body every time you walk. And if the weather is inclement or you want to walk indoors, my Z-Work treadmill is a great way to keep up your walking program!
4.Track your progress… and reward yourself! There’s something so motivating about seeing how far you’ve come, and writing down your step count, how long you walked or the days you did it can help you stay accountable. And once you have reached a goal, give yourself a treat, like flowers or a pedicure!
Remember that all you need to do is lace up and go - even a short walk will give you physical and emotional benefits. Keep moving for your health - you are worth it!!
Let's live FIT, HAPPY and HEALTHY - together!Denise
