Walk, Stretch, Explore: How To Stay Fit While Traveling

Hi everyone! I just got back from an amazing anniversary trip to Japan with my hubby Jeff and my daughter Katie and her husband Lane… what a dream come true! We took in so many sights and ate so much amazing food, and - of course - got in our steps as we walked all over! I get asked a lot about staying fit when traveling, and my plan of action is to exercise in a way that benefits my mood as much as my muscles! Below are some of my tips for staying fit while  connecting with your new surroundings when traveling… all are a win-win for your emotional and physical health!

Plan a daily walk. This is a great way to explore and surround yourself in culture while getting your steps! I like to pick a building, park or neighborhood that I have never been to, and walk there to soak in all the sights, sounds and smells along the way. You never know what you will stumble upon, and these walks create magical memories. 

Exercise like the locals. Ocean vacation? Take a surf lesson! Going somewhere with mountains? Pack gear to go for a hike! The list goes on, from renting bicycles in Amsterdam to doing Tai Chi in China. This is a great way to experience your surroundings while connecting with Mother Nature.

Start and end the day with yoga. Practicing yoga does double duty: It allows you to stretch and move your body so you release any travel tension and get your body ready for a day of exploring (or a nighttime of sleep), plus it helps center your mind, so you can focus on how much gratitude you have for being able to travel and explore.Try the yoga and stretching routines in my Membership - you can do them anytime, anywhere, even in your hotel room!

Take advantage of hotel amenities. Go for a swim, lift some weights, or play a round of tennis - all will awaken your senses while you burn calories! 

I hope these tips help you get the most out of your next vacation - even if you are doing a staycation, you can still go for walks to new places in your area, try a local sport, and do some yoga while focusing on what you appreciate about your neighborhood!
