Sometimes stress can get the best of us, no matter how hard we try to avoid it. And while some stress is good, too much unhealthy stress can lead to physical and emotional issues, including an elevated risk of cardiovascular concerns, digestive issues, and mental health roadblocks like anxiety and depression. The good news is that you CAN manage the stress that leads to inflammation, with some simple actions! I call these Tension Tamers - and they really work! Try the following, courtesy of my latest Fit Over 50: The Anti-Inflammation Issue magazine! Each tension tamer is simple and effective, and will help you get calm and centered. For more information on taming inflammation, pick up your copy of Fit Over 50: The Anti-Inflammation Issue today - online or on newsstands now!

Tension Tamers

1) Declutter. When everything has a place, your mind doesn't have anything extra to stress about. Start with your work space, whether that's in your office or where you handle your bills at home. Remove anything you don't need on a daily basis from your desk, rid the drawers of old documents you no longer need, and make sure you have the essentials that will help you tackle the task at hand!

2) Go for a walk. I love walking, and not just because it is fun - it is proven to lower your stress levels! Especially if you get outdoors, nature adds an extra boost of stress reduction! Next time you feel overwhelmed, slip on comfortable shoes and go for a quick walk - your body and mind will thank you!

3) Breathe. Simply focusing on your breath and aiming for even, long inhales and exhales can lower your stress levels. I love breathing exercises so much I have included them in my Denise Austin Membership! From box breathing to deep breaths, they are a wonderful way to destress and recharge.

I hope these tension tamers help YOU next time you are feeling overwhelmed or anxious. A quick refocus on yourself is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself and those around you! You are worth it!!

Let's live FIT, HAPPY and HEALTHY - together!
