One of the most important parts of being healthy is keeping your heart healthy! Being proactive about heart health is something that everyone should strive for. Here are three impactful changes that you can make in your daily life to improve your heart health.

  • Exercise - Get your body moving! Regularly raising your heart rate is one of the best things you can do to improve your heart health. Your heart is a muscle after all, so the more you work it (which is what you’re doing by getting your heart rate up) the stronger it will get! I like to suggest that you exercise 30 minutes at least three times each week. Get outside and walk or try this Heart Healthy Interval Training workout!
  • Cocoa Flavanols - Adding bioactives, like cocoa flavanols, to your daily diet have been shown to improve your heart health. With over 20 years of research, cocoa flavanols are clinically proven to improve blood flow in 2 hours, keep arteries healthy and flexible, and help retain healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels. One study called the Cocoa Supplement and Multivitamin Outcomes Study (or COSMOS study), was a 5 year long randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study involving 21,000 healthy adults in the US that investigated the long term impact of flavanols on health. The study found that participants who took 500mg of cocoa flavanols daily, in accordance with the study protocol, had a 39% reduction in deaths from cardiovascular disease compared to those in the placebo group. To consistently get my 500mg of cocoa flavanols a day, I add CocoaVia Cardio Health Powder to my coffee every morning and also enjoy adding it into smoothies. The taste is delicious and you can’t beat the science-backed benefits! Try it yourself and use code DENISE20 to save 20% on any CocoaVia Product!
  • Eat Fiber - A greater intake of fiber has been shown to help support heart health as you age. It is suggested that women over the age of 50 aim for about 20-25 grams each day. Lentils, oats, chickpeas, almonds and chia seeds are a few foods that pack a high fiber punch!

Make these three small changes in your lifestyle and you will see the difference in how you feel and make improvements in your heart health. Every little bit adds up and when it comes to keeping your heart healthy, YOU are worth it!!

Let’s live FIT, HAPPY and HEALTHY - together!!
