3 Ways to Eat Turmeric!
1. Add Turmeric to Smoothies (with a Bioavailability Boost!)
One of the easiest ways to enjoy turmeric is in a smoothie. Just sprinkle in ½–1 teaspoon and blend away! For even greater benefits, pair turmeric with a pinch of black pepper, which helps dramatically improve the body’s absorption of curcumin, turmeric’s active compound.
A favorite option? The Kale Banana Smoothie from Fit Over 50: New Year, New Abs is a perfect base for adding turmeric. The mild banana flavor pairs beautifully, and the leafy greens make it a true nutrient powerhouse. It’s an easy upgrade to an already nourishing recipe.
2. Citrus + Turmeric: Eat Seasonally in the Winter
Eating seasonally is a wonderful way to support your immune system - especially during the winter months when fresh citrus is at its peak. Vitamin C-rich fruits like oranges, lemons, and grapefruits pair beautifully with turmeric and help support inflammation balance and immune health.
Simple Citrus Turmeric Boost:
- Fresh-squeezed orange or grapefruit juice
- ½ teaspoon turmeric
- Pinch of black pepper
- Optional: grated ginger or a drizzle of honey
Stir or blend and enjoy! It’s bright, refreshing, and perfect for winter wellness.
3. Use Turmeric as a Veggie Seasoning
I roast vegetables all the time and love switching up my seasoning blends. Turmeric is an easy addition because it doesn’t overpower other flavors. Simply toss your favorite veggies with olive oil, turmeric, black pepper, and whatever herbs you love before roasting. The result is delicious, colorful, and full of anti-inflammatory goodness.
I want to share a few ways that I like to incorporate turmeric into my diet. I try to do this several times a week. Some of my other favorite recipes to add turmeric to are my Buddha Bowl or my Garden Veggie Lasagna recipes in my Membership! The flavor is mild so it's easy to add into just about anything! Give these suggestions a try and see how you feel!
