And if you want to boost your energy and give yourself a glow this spring, add these foods to your plate:
-Dark Leafy Greens. Dark leafy greens are just plain good for you. They offer vitamins, fiber, minerals, antioxidants and more. So be sure to pick up some kale, spinach and arugula this week, and make a yummy salad (or my Vitality For Life Turkey-Kale Meatballs!).
- Whole Soy Products. The antioxidant compounds found in soy may help reduce the appearance of aging, improve skin elasticity, and enhance hydration. So get glowing by adding foods like edamame to your diet - I have edamame as a snack in my Vitality For Life Meal Plan!
- Berries. An excellent source of antioxidants, fiber, vitamins, and minerals, berries are my go-to fruit for their healthy offerings and their taste! If you want to reduce inflammation, lower your blood pressure and support your immune system, gut health and brain function, berries should be part of your diet. I enjoy them in my Vitality For Life Fruity Yogurt Parfaits and on their own!
- Avocados. Rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and antioxidants, avocados help contribute to moisturization, skin elasticity, and anti-aging effects! They can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, dark spots, and scars, too, so this is a true skin-glowing food! Avocados are also filled with healthy fats, fiber, vitamins, and minerals - I use them on my Vitality for Life Spicy Egg Toast recipe (you can too - join today for access to all the Vitality Recipes!)
- Healthy Proteins. Think chicken breast, turkey and salmon if you eat meat, or beans and soy if you don't. Protein has so many health benefits, from helping to grow and repair muscle (so important as we get older), supporting immune health, and even promoting healthy skin, hair and nails! And protein gives you energy to do all the things you want: go for a hike, play pickleball, run around with your kids and grandkids... And since older adults need more protein, I made sure my Vitality For Life Meal Plan gives you all the protein you need! From Curried Chicken Salad and Maple-Glazed Salmon to my daughter Katie's Creamy White Bean and Kale Potato Soup, this week's menu in Vitality For Life: Menopause Strong isn't just giving you the protein, it's giving you the variety and taste to keep you on a healthy eating path!!
