Thanksliving: Finding Balance, Gratitude, and Joy!
Finding Balance. If you find yourself tense, overwhelmed or just needing a break, I highly recommend a walk outside. (That is part of the reason I launched my Anti-Inflammatory Walking Program to run during the holiday - it's a wonderful way to re-balance your outlook and move your body!) A walk puts your focus on other things, gets your blood flowing, and is proven to reduce stress. Don't be shy to say you need 20 minutes - lace up your shoes and go - you will feel so much better afterwards!
Finding Gratitude. I am a firm believer in thanking the people who helped get the foods on our holiday plates. From the farmers and pickers to those that helped to cook, grounding yourself and giving a moment of thanks helps to put focus on what really matters - family, health, and our connections to others. I also make a point over the holidays to tell others how much they mean to me, giving a specific example if I can. On that note - I am soooo grateful for everyone in this community, for sticking with me through the years. Hearing how I may have helped you and your health gives me such happiness!
Finding Joy. This one is easy for me, because I am "glass very full" kind of woman! I look at how my daughters have grown into kind, caring, successful people, how my love of my hubby is still as strong as ever, and that our health is good. I am truly blessed when it comes to family. But if you are having trouble finding joy, focus on the little things: the creamy mashed potatoes on the table, how Mother Nature is creating a unique scenery for the day, what you have accomplished in the past week. I find the Three Good Things practice to be very helpful when I am feeling a little bit down - it can lift your mood for months after just a few weeks - give it a try!
I hope you find inspiration in these suggestions - having a great day can be easy if you make that your goal. You can do it, because you are worth it!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
